I am enamored with weddings because they are one of the happiest days in a person’s life. I love everything from seeing families coming together to the small details that go into making each wedding unique. But nothing beats being able to capture portraits of a newly married couple sharing their first blissful moments.
Big thanks to the lovely lady in yellow below Amy for introducing me to this awesome couple!
Casey: the ceremony. We spent a lot of time building a ceremony that was absolutely about the two of us. Having someone who knew both of us, who could tell our story as individuals but also 2 people who fell in love., was very important to us. We also put a lot of time into our vows. They were the most memorable part for me, we have been to a lot of our friends weddings and borrowed the best from each ceremony and vows to create our own. It was personal but also special to piece it together like we did. Brian – the intro dance, it was when we could finally let loose and just have fun enjoying the rest of the night. Casey selected the song by The Darkness “I believe in a thing called love.” Our bridal party absolutely turned up the fun in the grand entrance, by the time Casey and I were announced we really had to show a good time. We sang to each other and danced all the way it. Feeling the energy in the room was crazy cool, all the people you love in one room is really special.
I tried on around 15 dresses, none of them really made me feel like a bride. After 2 bridal stores my Mom, her best friend, Carla, and my best friend, Hannah and I went for margaritas. That did the trick, the next dress I tried on brought me to tears. I felt beautiful and I knew Brian would love it.
The colors were really up to what color suit Brian wanted to wear. I really wanted a monochromatic look. He wanted to wear Navy, so I wanted to colors to be in a blue color scheme. When I asked the bridesmaids to stand by me, I wanted to put together something thoughtful and personal to me. I work at Knoll, a modern furniture design company, and work with color and textiles daily. I wanted the girls to put their own touch on their style of dress, so included a bundle of random Knoll textile samples in their gift as an example of the array of greys and blues I wanted them to wear. It worked perfectly, they all looked like goddesses!
We met in Manhattan Beach, that pretty much sealed the deal. It was challenging to find a venue that met our style and vibe along with our budget. Verandas was absolutely perfect. We also loved tbe different levels within the venue. Having the dance floor on an alternate floor as dinner definitely got people up and dancing!!
We wanted the vibe to be playful, fun, personal. Brian really wanted a donut wall, so we built a donut wall. I really wanted the Rolls Royce. Our #1 item we collect when we travel are matches, so we had Barclay match boxes at the bar. We co wrote the cocktail napkins to be super funny but also highlight our individual personalities. Lastly, nothing else quite says “we want you to have a good time” like giving everyone a party animal. Wanted it to look simple, modern, timeless. Wanted a lot of greenery, the venue was a beautiful foundation, and added in pops of white flowers. Our florist did an amazing job carry out our vision.
